Drawing Chairs

Undoubtedly you will need to be able to draw cyclohexane ring structures and show the ring inversion.  With a little practice you should easily become an expert at this in no time.

1) Begin by drawing two diagonal parallel lines.  Note that the lower line is closer to you and the upper line is further away.

2) Next add the carbon at one end.

3) Then add the carbon at the other end.

4) At all the apices on the top of the ring draw your axial bonds pointing up.

5) At all the apices on the bottom of the ring draw the other 3 axial bonds pointing down.  This completes all the axial bonds.

6) Now draw the equatorial bonds.  You draw them such that they are parallel to the bonds which are two bonds away.  These are illustrated in red.
